Evercleanse

“I was wondering what you though of EverCleanse now that it’s different from your first story on it?”

Regular readers will remember our original article on the colon cleanser Evercleanse®. Unfortunately, as you probably noticed, that article became outdated as soon as the Evercleanse.com site was updated in the spring of 2008. So let’s take another look this widely advertised “detox” method and see if our minds have changed.

What’s Really In Evercleanse®

Currently Evercleanse® is sold as a 2-part product. There’s the “cleansing formula” and the “replenishing formula”. The evercleanse.com web site still doesn’t overwhelm us with information about the products but let’s look at each one and see if we can bring a bit of reality to the discussion.

First, let’s have a gander at Step 1 of the program—the “cleansing formula”. The one and only ingredient listed on that label is “soluble fiber”. That’s well and good except that we would have preferred to see both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber is the type of fiber found in oatmeal and many fruits. This is the fiber that takes on a jelly-like consistency as it passes through your system and softens your bowel movements.

Insoluble fiber, however can’t be broken down by the body so it passes through pretty much intact. This type of fiber is common in whole grains and works to bulk up your stools. Some experts believe that it also speeds up your colon so feces is moved out of your body sooner.

Next, let’s look at the “replenishing formula”. It’s main ingredient is bacteria. 5 different kind of bacteria are listed on the label. Why is this a big deal? Well, mounting scientific evidence suggests that by maintaining a healthy population of “friendly” bacteria in your digestive tract, you have better overall health.

So Is Evercleanse® A Scam Or Not?

When we looked at the new evercleanse.com site, we saw a 1-month supply of this product listed for $99.95. In Lisa’s opinion, that’s just too much money for plain old fiber and some probiotics. As she puts it, “Go the supermarket or Wal-Mart or the drugstore and buy a package of fiber wafers and a bottle of probiotics. Ask your doctor for a recommendation. You’ll spend far less than $100 a month, I promise you.”

As many of you know by now, we were contacted this morning by someone claiming to represent EverCleanse and demanding that we remove our EverCleanse article(s). We stand behind the contents of both our EverCleanse articles 100% and will not be removing them under any condition short of a court order.

I went to Kroger to find specifically a probiotic, but there were none to be found. However, the 10-day pack of Evercleanse was. Based on my research, it looks like the combination of ingredients and dosage is going to be beneficial. However, I have already been on a 10 day diet geared toward getting my blood sugar down, to maximize the impact of a probiotic. The worst thing I can say about their product is that it lacks instructions, especially some that make sense. I will be ignoring their "take all of these all day" implications, and just doing the soluble fiber drink the first 10 days (to clear the path and make ready, like killing the weeds before laying down grass seed), then the replenish pills (the grass seed, in this analogy), and then I will polish off the daily maintenance formula (as a fiber supplement to my daily diet). At this price, it doesn't make sense to take a replenish pill when the cleanser hasn't had time to do its job yet. However, nothing in this product makes me think it's a scam, based on my extensive reading on the subject of heatlhy, balanced diets, and healthy flora in the colon.
