Neti Pot

“What is a neti pot?”

A neti pot is a small pitcher that is used in the alternative therapy known as nasal rinsing.

Remember those old fairy tales of Aladdin’s magic lamp? A neti pot looks like a miniature version of one of those. A neti pot typically has a small handle on one side and an extended spout on the other. Usually these pots are ceramic but I’ve seen glass, steel and even plastic ones in stores.

The pots are shaped they way they are to guide salt water into a nostril of the nose. In nasal rinsing, water is poured into one nostril and allowed to flow out the other with nothing more than gravity to guide it.

Nasal pots should also have large, wide mouths for easy cleaning.

You used to have to search for nasal pots but as the practice has become more mainstream, neti pots have popped up in supermarkets, chain pharmacies and even discount department stores. You should be able to find a perfectly version for less than $10 at just about any pharmacy section these days.
